Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a non-surgical procedure that promotes scalp hair growth. Scientific evidence supports its effectiveness in increasing hair count, and thickness and promoting the growth phase of the hair cycle. PRP, as the name implies, contains a higher concentration of platelets. These platelets are a naturally occurring source of growth factors needed to stimulate and create new hair strands. PRP stimulates hair growth when injected near the roots of the hair. PRP therapy is a three-step procedure. The patient's blood is withdrawn in the first step; the amount depends on the treatment area. Platelets are extracted from the blood in the second step using centrifugation. After local anesthesia, the freshly prepared PRP is injected into the scalp skin with a small needle at the level of hair roots in the final step. The entire procedure takes about 1-1.5 hours.
